POSITIVE NEWS FOR IRLAM AND CADISHEAD YOUTH

Irlam and Cadishead Times have teamed up with Positive Moves a Community Interest Company based in Irlam and Cadishead, They are a social enterprise, not for profit organisation responding to the needs of the community and providing services for the Community. The aim is to provide monthly news and views on Youth issues and what is happening in the area.

Most of the staff, volunteers and Directors live and work in Irlam and Cadishead and Salford. All of the staff and volunteers receive training in youth work and safeguarding and undergo DBS Checks. Primarily they run sessions to help younger people in Irlam and Cadishead who are disadvantaged, but also try to provide universal services and holiday provision for 5-12 years.

They are based at St Johns Centre 6 George St off Fiddlers Lane, facing Fledgling’s nursery and run most of their sessions at Cadishead Hall in Cadishead Park. They fund activities through various methods including grants, commissioned services, sponsorship and fees.  Currently running six sessions a week and try to provide a holistic service for young people and the community.

The sessions include: Mondays from 3.30pm -5.30pm at St Johns Centre, Brook and ICY working together to provide confidential information on sexual health and relationships, free condoms, contraception, Chlamydia screening and pregnancy testing. Help with CV’s and Job applications. Girls group is on  Wednesdays from 3.00pm until 6.00pm at Cadishead Hall.  Activities include Arts and Crafts, Drama Group, Games, Cooking and Healthy Foods. The Lads or young men’s group meet Wednesday’s 4pm until 6.30pm at Cadishead Hall where activites have included sports, recreation health, fitness and personal development.

Positive Stars Special needs group meet Thursdays 6.30pm -8.30pm again at Cadishead Hall, during these sessions they do different activities such as; Arts and Crafts, Construction Building, Drama Group, Games, Healthy Foods, Sports, Soft and Sensory Play. Friday Night Youth Club is between 5.30pm and 8.30pm at Cadishead Hall, with an Open youth club for young people from 9-18 years with Games, activities, tuck shop, trips out etc.

Sylvia McDowell from the group said, “Alongside our core work, as mentioned above, we provide training, work placements, volunteering and work. We are currently planning a launch event and celebration of our youth information advice guidance service. A summer fair, 4 weeks summer holiday provision and graffiti arts project in Cadishead Park!
