Irlam Steel ‘young guns’ made it eight wins in a row as the cricketers even mamaged to beat the weather for another impressive victory.
Irlam entertained Springhead at home and although play was delayed and the game shortened to 30 overs a side, the Steelmen were in a confident mood.
Irlam set off at a fair pace and although they lost Justin Thomas with the score on 11 Adam Harris joined Danny Thomas and they added 66 for the second wicket at a run a ball. Thomas hit 43 and Harris 27 and their dismissals brought Scott Payne and Scot Lowery to the wicket and they took the Springhead bowling to pieces. Payne hit 6 sixes in his 78 not out taking only 48 balls and Lowery hit 44 not out in 19 balls to take the Steelmen’s total to 216-4.
Springhead really had an impossible task with Adam Harris picking up the first 3 wickets to leave the visitors at 7-3 but with a 4th wicket stand of 40 the score was taking on a respectable look.
Enter Ryan Lowery and his slow right arm bowling proved impossible for the visitors to counter and he ended up with 5-25 other wicket takers were Stu Hilton 1-8 and 14 year old Aiden Oliver 1-2 as the visitors subsided to 82 all out to give Irlam their 8th consecutive victory and well clear at the top of the table.
