LOCAL FIRST RESPONDERS SHORT LISTED

Irlam and Cadishead Community First Responders Keith and Olwen Hanson were recently short-listed for the North West Ambulance Service Volunteer of the Year Award 2014.

The nomination was based on their activities over almost ten years in supporting the ambulance service on emergency calls in the Irlam and Cadishead District, more recently including Rixton with Glazebrook and regularly delivering the 2-hour BHF ‘HeartStart’ course to train members of the community in basic emergency first aid.

The couple actively promotes the provision of publicly accessible defibrillators, such as the ones recently installed at Irlam Steel cricket pavilion and at Hollins Green community centre and give talks to local community groups.

At the NWAS Staff Awards Ceremony held at Ribby Hall in Preston recently they were delighted to receive this award for “Going the Extra Mile”.

Keith said, “We were both really honoured to receive the nomination, currently we have four Community First Responders in the area and we are always looking and indeed keen to add others to the group. Anyone interested can contact us in the first instance on kandolhans@hotmail.com.
