LEARNING TO SAVE FOR THAT ‘RAINY’ DAY

LEARNING TO SAVE FOR THAT ‘RAINY’ DAY

Pupils at Moorfield Junior School have for the past eighteen months had ‘hands on experience’ as to the value of saving money on a regular basis thanks to the Salford Credit Union.

The Cutnook Lane School not only offers children and their parents but also the wider community the chance to save money for that rainy day or special event or occasion, right in the heart of the Community, serving as a Salford Credit Union Collection Point.

Sue Steele Child and Family Support officer at the school said, “The Credit Union has proved very popular with the children and we now have around 50 making regular deposits at school. The project has gone from strength to strength and the children have been videoed for a promotional film for the Credit Union.”

Pupils at the school can receive certificates and savings piggy banks for making regular deposits into the Credit Union that can be an alternative to the rise of the Pay Day Loan Industry. With regular savers able to get low interest loans from the Credit Union after a qualifying period of time.
